XLimage® server software has been designed to guarantee fast and easy access to Cultural Heritage images. Users do not have to download software or plug-ins. All functions are accessed with a standard Internet browser (Microsoft Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Mozilla). XLimage® guarantees fast access even to huge image files: in a few clicks you can experience such detail that probably you wouldn't even notice standing in front of the original painting!
- protect image copyright
XLimage® integrates the most advanced copyright protection technology: digital watermarking. It is possible to embed an invisible watermark in the image which can be detected with appropriate software. Images are thus intrinsecally protected and the copyright holder can use the embedded watermark information as proof of ownership in case of a legal dispute. The watermarking technology employed by XLimage® is based on patented algorythms developed by the University of Florence's Laboratorio Comunicazione e Immagini ("Images and Communications Lab"); these algorythms are the only ones approved and adopted by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage to watermark its digital images. Moreover the customer never sees the whole image at once but only a portion of it; is however possible to insert a digital watermark in this portion of image.

XLimage® allows to use the digital contents of Cultural Heritage preserving the collections and making not otherwise accessible contents available. As an example, it is possible to view the prototype of the Project "Bibliotheca Universalis" of the Central National Library in Florence, using XLimage® to access an ancient map of the city of Pistoia.
Another example is available at the official site of the Uffizi Gallery in Florence where many artworks canbe experienced in ultra-high resolution, thanks to XLimage® technology. Furthermore, the possibility to show very high quality images on Internet is a contribute to the promotion of less known but not less important cultural treasures.
